Hi, Welcome to BackPainSucks.com!
This website is for people who have back pain, a back injury or disorder, or people who just want to have a healthy back. I hope to provide useful tips and techniques to help you make your back pain more bearable and I'll give you my opinion on different treatments, exercises, and equipment you can use to make your back more healthy and better yet how to keep it healthy. Back pain sucks, let's make it better!
Sometimes the incident we blame the back injury on was just the final "straw that broke the camels back".
Most people will have back pain at some point in their life, about 2 out of 3 people will take time off work due to back pain. There are many conditions associated with back pain. Lower back pain is the second leading reason why people visit their doctor, the number 1 reason for a doctor visit is for a cold/flu. Back pain is also the second most common type of pain, with headaches being the most common.
I do feel that it's important for you to know that I'm not a doctor or therapist or medical professional of any kind. I'm just a regular guy whose working career was cut short by a spinal injury. I live with back pain 24 hrs a day 7 days a week, so many of the things I will speak of are from my own personal experiences. With that said, throughout this website I will be giving my opinions on different back pain related topics.
***As always please consult with your physician before beginning any back pain medications, treatments or exercise programs.
I've tried to list the links on the left side of the page in somewhat of a logical order from least extreme to most extreme measures. You'll notice that surgery is the last on the list, that's exactly where I believe it belongs. Please do yourself a favor and never rush into back surgery thinking that it's an automatic "cure" for your back pain. Surgery does not always relieve back pain, nor is it always successful, things can and do go wrong. After surgery your back pain may be better, stay the same, or become worse than it was before surgery. Think very seriously about it before proceeding with any surgery.
